For the second year running our scout group managed to win the district Soap Box Derby trophy. This year we planned 3 new carts and Tom Jubb and Glynn were also building one as well. With Andrew Marshalls help, we managed to build 2 new carts (the third unfortunately didn't get off the blocks). These with the Torpedo (last years winner) meant we had a great chance and more importantly loads of chances for the scouts to race.
The practice was incident filled as first conner and then Georgia managed to roll the two new carts. Then Connor repeated the trick. This time however the axle broke and we had to withdraw it. This left us with our two carts and Tom Jubbs build. From the practice it was plain to see that the races would be a lot closer this year. There was some ingenious designs that got a couple of our parents planning their entries for next year. It also proved that it wasn't always going to be the big wheeled carts that won.
After the downhill section, attention then turned to the slalom. By this stage it was obvious, barring an accident that Tom's cart was winning. It won every race that it entered. Before the result was announced we had the adult race and there was no shortage of volunteers to race the carts. The winner was Richard Ashton in, you've guessed it, Toms Cart!
So to next year, can we make it 3 in a row?
